FLOWER & TRAFFIC BOX PROJECT FUNDED BY
ESSEX COUNTY LOCAL ARTS PROGRAM GRANT

On May 28, the Community and Commerce Enhancement Foundation (CCEF), the 501c3 foundation of the Chamber of Commerce of the Oranges (CCO), presented a $1000 check to the Orange Preparatory Academy of Innovation & Inquiry for its students’ creation of two flower boxes supplied by the CCO. Plantings will be done by the Friends of Metcalf Park and the two boxes will eventually be located in the park when its renovation project is completed.

In the photo above, OPA art teacher Laura Politi (left) and three student artists sit in one of the two boxes during the May 28 presentation. The students (left to right) are Darshana Joe, Luz Mestiza Lorenzo, and Amiya Chapman. Standing behind them (left to right) are Orange UEZ Coordinator Chris Mobley; OPA Principal Carrie Halstead; OPA official Jonathan Clerie; an unidentified OPA official; and Orange City Councilwoman Quantavia Hilbert.

The students will create a mural on the traffic box in front of Orange Preparatory Academy on Central Avenue, funded by another Essex County Local Arts Program grant, in the Fall 2025.

In the lower photo, artist Luis Oliva poses next to the mural he created to beautify a previously graffiti-tagged traffic box at the corner of Main Street and Tony Galante Plaza in Orange just east of the US Post Office.
